With Two Quartets, I set out to combine a string quartet and jazz quartet into one unified ensemble, opening up a new world of expression.
I’ve always been fascinated by where musical languages meet: the nuance of chamber music, the openness and spontaneity of improvisation, and the rhythmic textures of world music — all coming together through composing that seeks to expand their possibilities.
‘Resilience’ grows from that spirit. The piece reflects the tension and strength needed to move through challenging moments while still seeking beauty, clarity, and forward motion.
